The best laid plans, aye well. Thought, after the Round reset at 11.00 am, I’ll ride out East as far as Longniddry, then make my way back towards Bonnyrigg, through Longniddry, Cockenzie and Port Seton, Prestonpans and Musselburgh, taking as many zones as I can. This should give me around 120 zones, leaving me requiring another 80 before 11.00 am next day. Zones on my local patch of Bonnyrigg, Rosewell and Dalkeith should just about meet that amount bringing me up to that magic total of 200 and the El Staminatore medal would be mine. However, best laid plans sometimes fail.
This one failed though forgetfulness on my part. There was me getting all psyched up for the TURF Ultimate Region Fight 2025 and the El Staminatore medal when I remembered we were heading down to Selkirk on Sunday to visit my mother. And with Selkirk practically a zone desert with only seven zones, that’s not going to be of much value to the fight. Anyway, ho-hum, there will always be other days. And also gumming up the turf works is that we are in the process of getting new flooring laid.
They should have been finished in four days. However, they did not turnup on day one, so a day wasted waiting in for them to arrive. Then one day they cut the day short and bugger off to another job. Then a promise to be there on Monday is also a wasted day as they don’t turn up. A phone call reveals it was supposed to be Tuesday. No, it was not! Anyway, young lad arrives the following Thursday, a full week after the job should have been finished, and completed the final area. However, he would not look at the snagging items, so yet another day waiting in will be required.
And there’s more. A family emergency when my aging mother collapses and is blue-lighted to the Border General Hospital. So, much time spend waiting in A&E, then trips to the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh and some anxious times. Thankfully, she seems to be doing well but further tests are in the works and, fingers crossed she should be home in a day or so. And all this means not a lot of turfing other than a short trip to bag an FTT zone locally. It goes by the name of DungBeetle and yes, there’s a pile of dung at the zone. The zone was one of my own suggestions, so very pleasing to see it being created.
Back to the TURF Ultimate Region Fight 2025 and something that I cannot get my head around. As you can see, I’ve yet to “make the cut”, getting myself in the top 80% where my efforts will count towards the points. What I’m wondering is, if you are not above the red line that represents the cut, is there any point in turfing for the competition? Kind off feels pointless if your efforts are to no avail? Or am I missing something here?
