My main battle this Round has been to avoid relegation from League 3 down to League 4 and I’ve managed to get myself into a good position to avoid just that. I’ve been taking a look at the Leagues above, League 2, League One and Elite and looking at the points values in the middle of each table, it does not seem all that difficult points-wise to actually stay there once you have reached any of those above League positions. Of course, the Really Big Problem is getting enough points to get there in the first place! Wish there were medals for achieving League levels, oh, and TvT and FTT as well.

I’ve been turfing with the single speed bike these past few days while my new bike, the Ribble CGR SL, is being operated on at a local bike shop. A wee problem with air in the brake hoses. And while the single speed bike is most enjoyable to ride in it’s own special and unique way, I really miss having the comfort of those larger tyres, and most of all, having 2 x 12 gears! These are anxious times and I hope the Ribble makes it through the operating theatre and emerges in full fettle again, hopefully in time for the start of the next Round when I may go for the Roundpointer-750k medal*.

I tried three times to get the rear brake bled correctly but eventually gave up. Makes you wonder if it’s worth all the hassle buying, and I should add very expensive, Hope hydraulic brakes, or in other words, bicycle bling? And there’s the single speed bike with it’s cable operated disc brakes performing perfectly. Not sure what I’ll do if unable to solve the problem. Hmm, better have a Plan B ready, just in case. I really want to use the Ribble for the  the TURF Ultimate Region Fight 2024 beginning on 1st September, rather than the single speed.

Now, to finish, something completely different. Can you identify the zones from the following photographs and clues? And no cheating by looking up where I’ve been turfing recently. Answers will be in the next Turf Blog.

Photograph No.1 – Founded in 1140. Near the very first coal mine in Scotland. Salt.

Photograph No 2 – site of small scale hydro-power project from 1940’s. Paper mill.

Photograph No 3 – Parish kirk dating from 1820. Barn owls. Ghost Minute site.

That’s all folks!

*Aye, right.
