Turf Zone – TraprainLaw
It can be very annoying when you forget the rules of turf or how turf actually works, particularly those that apply to the less well known or less participated areas of turf, in this instance, collecting turfer unique zones. And it’s especially annoying when it costs you that one and only turfer unique zone in your own neck of the woods, of that turf name, anywhere, at least today. ChoccyMuffin had noticed a turfer unique I didn’t have at Traprain Law, at zone DarkSideOfTheLaw, the one at the parking area.
So, off we toddled in the car, donned our walking boots to climb the hill for the two zones on top still showing as Neutrals, and started to take zone DarkSideOfTheLaw first. Of course, I forgot that I had to get the zone first if I wanted the turfer unique, getting an assist will not do. Anyway, nil to me, one to ChoccyMuffin, who actually isn’t bothered about collecting turfer uniques. Hopefully turfer idinnyken will pop up again but ya dinna ken, dae ya?
My next two turfer uniques were in Edinburgh, namely granitemike and spacemanspif3. I’d noticed them the evening before and actually thought about jumping on the night bus, or even taking the car, into Edinburgh, and grabbing them before they vanished. But it was late and I decided that type of thing was a bit OTT, a bit excessive for a couple of unique zones. But luck was with me the following morning and the zones were still there, three for each of them.
The zones held by spacemanspif3 were at the east end of The Meadows, a high-risk area for zone loss to turfers on their way to work. The other were around the top of Leith Walk with slightly less risk of loss to other turfers. Of course, it always takes time on the bus into Edinburgh, particularly during the busy morning commute and an anxious one as well. During the journey I kept an eye on turfer activity. Some turfers were showing in The Meadows but they soon cleared away. However, at the top of Leith Walk I noticed turfer edgygrl heading in that direct but thankfully my zones remained untaken. Another two in the bag. Back soon.
