Turf Zone – TheKelpies

With the Turf Ultimate Region Fight 2024 finished for another year – Team Scotland came in a respectable 4th place out of 12 competing teams – the pressure is now off. Now we can all get back to normal turfing. Initial thoughts were to aim for promotion into League 2 but when I see who is in pole position, i.e. TimmyM, with over 67,000 points since the start of the Round #172 only two days ago, I think I’ll give that a miss.

And with two of my main turf targets also completed, one the 2500 Unique medal and the other the Monument medal, I’m pretty much free to simply enjoy some turfing this Round. So, what have I been up to today? Well, an old favourite, hunting down some turfer uniques. Miserable wet weather kept the bicycle in the shed – wimp that I am – and it was a day spent On The Buses, to quote an old TV series that might hint at my age.

Yes, into Edinburgh this morning bagging another four turfer uniques, bringing my tally to a nice 390. First was at zone MarchmontCres taken from Lightinkorean, followed by XIII at zone Greyfriars, XIII and Placid_Casual at TronSquare. I missed out on Philippajc at zone Waverly, which is not all that surprising as it tends to change hands regularly. One final take was at zone TheMD, out by Sighthill, from turfer BroonDandTina.

One thing I love about turfing is that it’s a relatively simple activity, you just get on your bike and go turfing. But sometimes I feel it gets too complicated, too unwieldy. And please note this is my personal opinion. The one thing that has me withdrawing somewhat from the game is when all the discussion groups start to become overly complicated. Just too many of them when fewer would do the job just fine.

Now, I’m happy for other folk to go this way but a few days ago I saw there was about 1o different chat streams about turfing on my WhatsApp page. A whole bunch for the Turf Ultimate Region Fight 2024 with another bunch for the coming Bonanza 2025. To be honest that puts me off and I removed myself from all but one of them, the Turf Scotland group. And now I feel so much lighter and have also realised how much time I was spending looking at them. Every time a new message alarm sounded; I would look at see what was going on. I like the peace and quiet now.
