When I starting off today’s turfing session the plan was to clear the local zones in Bonnyrigg and Rosewell to allow ChoccyMuffin to take them again and get herself away from the relegation zones in the League. However, it also turned into a very successful brick spotting session as well, adding more brickmark finds towards the next Brick Spotting medal, another of those amazing though sadly, un-official, medals from Planet Gary.
My first find of the day was a WHITEHILL at zone BonnyriggPath, one of the most common bricks found in the area, mainly because there were all manufactured at Whitehill Fireclay Works in nearby Rosewell. This was followed by another WHITEHILL at zone ShielBurnTwo where I also found a badly weathered and damaged HOOD also made at the same brickworks in Rosewell.
Next, zone EnterWhiteHil and a whole bunch of bricks to add to the wall including WHITEHILL, ROSLIN, SBC, ARNISTON, and MILTON CARLUKE, all located in some fly-tipping rubble beside the zone. And the final brick from my turfing session in Rosewell was, yes, another WHITEHILL at zone HolyStMatthew. I suspect that the entire church there is built with WHITEHILL bricks.
And while all that was great, it was nothing yet. At zone SignsOfHumans I hit the proverbial brickmark jackpot adding another 9 different brickmarks to the tally including GLENBOIG, DOUGALL, THISTLE, WHITEHILL, NCB ROSLIN, VOGRIE, ARNISTON, HEATHFIELD and PRESTON GRANGE, all located in the brick walls of the old railway platform. The VOGRIE is probably the oldest brick and the HEATHFIELD one of the rarest locally.
All this brought my brickmark count to a pleasing 33 brickmarks, which means I now have the Brick Spotting 25 medal and have also made some way towards the next medal, the Brick Spotting 50. But not forgetting the turfing rewards, 57 zones taken and around 10,000 points as well. Back soon.
