Turf Zone – SayAhhh

Decided to take the Swifty Air kick scooter turfing this morning rather than the bicycle. Perhaps a spur of the moment decision but more likely down to the sad news that Swifty Scooters have ceased trading, having decided to go into voluntary liquidation with the  appointment of an administrator. And there was me hoping they would launch an upgraded model of the Swifty Air with disc brakes, but no chance of that happening now unless someone else takes over the business.

Why did they go bust? I suspect down to developing a very desirable looking but expensive carbon fibre kick scooter that never made it into production and a stand-on moped electric scooter, which is very expensive at £3500, needs DVSA approval, a number plate, V5C log book, be registered for road tax and riders need a CBT (moped) certificate, must wear a motorcycle helmet and have insurance. The wrong way to go in my opinion. Should have stayed with traditional kick scooters!

Anyway, it was good to be out on the kick scooter again, taking zones in Eskbank and Dalkeith, mostly from turfer TurboSmith*. I would normally try to encourage others to get a Swifty kick scooter but no point doing that now. However, there are others makes around with Yedoo Scooters perhaps being the main supplier out there. Turfer MuttsCycles has one so he’s the man to speak to should you feel the need to get one. Kickbike also offer a good range of products.

As a slight aside, I want to mention that there’s a new mesh gate/fence appeared in Dalkeith Country Park. It’s located on the road from Restoration Yard that leads towards Musselburgh, just before the cattle pens. It’s about 2.00m high with a wicket gate and a large padlock. So, it may be locked out of hours, effectively rendering that route out of bounds to turfers on kick scooters who venture there around silly o’clock. Oh, I guess that might be me!

Not much to report today but I do hope to get out late tonight for a kick scooter turfing session around the Melville Castle area and Dalkeith Country Park. Fingers crossed for lots of interesting wildlife, a few passing UFO’s, a good show of the aurora and heaps and heaps of Noctilucent clouds in the North. But not that nasty green goblin I encountered last time. Back soon.

*I’ve decided that all turf names should be capitalised. Looks so much better.
