Some interesting developments in the turf league. The players in each group are now local, meaning that if you are in Scotland some, or possibly even all, of the other members of that group may be local to you, well, relatively speaking. Scotland is not that small a country. You may already know some of the other players and the hope is that this will encourage additional interest in the league. It certainly got my interest.
In my own group, League 5, I’m familiar with many of the other members. HappyHibby is a family friend of long standing and we all know MuttsCycles, especially those whose bicycles are in need of some care and attention. Yes, Scott is your man for that. You can find his bicycle repair emporium in Newtongrange, Midlothian. The above screenshot was taken around 8:30am on 8th June.
At this point of the round, looks like my main rival is Walking4steps, who seems to have noticed that I was in the lead yesterday evening and was out at 4:30 am this morning to jump ahead. However, doing some analysis between myself and my nemesis, shows that my approximate average of ZTPH (zone takes per hour) is 20, while Walking4steps has a ZTPH around 10. That would suggest he/she is on foot or a very slow cyclist. Hopefully, fingers crossed, with myself on the bike I can keep up and might even get ahead by a good margin. But, long way to go in the round, so anything could happen.
During SCOnanza, the Scottish Open Turf Championships in Glasgow, intrepid turfer ESOCWalter managed to attain the 750k Roundpointer medal, granted for collecting 750,000 points during a single round of turf. Well done that man! Now, this has me thinking. I have the 500k Roundpointer medal and the 750k Roundpointer is next on the to-do list. So, started thinking about trying for that this round. However, it’s a 4-week round and the final week of the round is out as we are away doing other things and managing any decent turf sessions would be difficult. This leads me to thinking that a 5-week round would be ideal, with the next one falling this coming August and the next in November. Plans are afoot, as they say. Somewhere.
The closing day event of SCOnanza, the 2026 Scottish Open Turf Championships, made use of the Glasgow Subway and this gave me an idea for a turf challenge. So, you would purchase a ticket for the subway (they only cost £3.40 for the entire day), stop off at each of the 15 stations, which are spread over around 10-miles, exit each station and take at least one zone, or perhaps even 5 zones. The challenge would be to see how fast you can complete the circuit taking in all the stations. This would make a great turf mission and you’d experience a bit of Glasgow as well. What fun we might have!
