Turf Zone – VigilCairn

I must admit I’m still lacking enthusiasm to really get cracking on my attempt on the Diversiest medal, at least during this Round. Taking all those 1000 Round unique zones is proving quite a challenge. Not all that unexpected, but still quite a challenge. With my tally sitting at only 556 takes (I already have the Diversier medal), quite some distance to go. However, still time to improve that figure but I think a 5-week Round and longer, and warmer, summer days, are certainly more attractive. Time will tell.

While on the topic of Turf medals that can be achieved during a Round, what else could we be trying for? The main one that comes to mind is the Roundpointer series of medals. This ranges from Roundpointer-10k to Roundpointer-3M. This medal series, of course, is already available and many thanks to the Turf Wizards for doing that. My Turf to-do list includes the Roundpointer-750K, another tough challenge. So, what other Round related medals might be suggested to the Turf Wizards? We have Round points and Round uniques already covered, so what don’t we have covered?

Perhaps the most obvious idea would to widen the range of the Diverse-Diversiest medal series, perhaps along the same lines as the Greed series, allowing a wider range of values to aim for. Another series that might also be applied to Rounds are the Assists and Crowdy medals, both of which might encourage more turfers to come together. RoundAssister and CrowdyRounder, perhaps? This leaves us with Round takes.

So, what about a series of medals, perhaps Roundtakers-100, Roundtakers-250, and so on. There was something else I thought off when we were turfing up in Stirling last week but I cannot for the life of me recall what it was. Hopefully, it will pop back into my head again. Perhaps some coffee, scones or chocolate will help?

The latest new medal series we have available is the Monument series. There are three in the set, Monument, Monumental and Monumentalist, for taking 50, 100 and 250 zones with the Monument attribute respectively. I like this series and have already managed to take 50 zones for the Monument medal and now have my tally sitting at 62. This has been due to a combination of additional takes by myself and also zones that I’ve previously taken being granted the Monument attribute.

Another aspect of the Monument series is that you can suggest that existing zones be granted the Monument attribute. During our trip to the Stirling area, I found three such zones and have started to request the attribute be added to each. All three were zones beside war memorials. I would strongly encourage all turfers to keep an eye out for suitable zones and to send in a request for Monument status. Not only will this help you along the way towards the next medal but will help other turfers as well.

Today, ChoccyMuffin and myself drove across to a very chilly North Berwick for a spot of turfing. For myself, I was after another Monument zone, Quadrant, to add to my list, along with two turfer uniques. The first was on our way to North Berwick, zone AberladyGreen in Aberlady, held by turfer bikestuff. The other, Gordonspocky55, was in North Berwick. This brings my turfer unique total to 412. Still wish there was a medal for this. Perhaps one day.

For ChoccyMuffin, her aim was to collect a few uniques and there was plenty to choose from in North Berwick. By mid-afternoon, we were about to head for home when we noticed she was only a handful of zones short of the 150 required for the Greed-150 medal, so stayed a while longer to mop up a few more zones to achieve the medal.

And that about that for today. Our new Brompton folding bikes are due to arrive tomorrow, so we are both excited about getting out on those for some turfing, perhaps when this brass-monkey weather turns to the warmer side. And finally, the PG Turf Advent Calendar 2024 is ready and waiting for the 1st December to be unleashed on any unsuspecting turfer brave enough to take part. More information here.
