Today I decided I’m desperately in need a change of turf scenery. Zones Skeltiemuir, DobbysSock, PeacocksBeard, Wishart, FreeKick, Slytherin and many more, all local Bonnyrigg zones buzzing through my turf addled brain as I sleep. I find myself in a dreadful nightmare where I’ve been forced out of retirement into a, dare I say it, a job, where I must take Bonnyrigg zones forever, or until the Big Bang reverses into the Big Crunch, the Zombie Apocalypse or when Kit-Kats and fruit scones are available free from the NHS. Whatever comes first.
So, into Auld Reekie we go. That ye olde name for Edinburgh. I’ve loaded the bike onto the car rack and parked on Blackford Avenue near the University of Edinburgh Kings Buildings, thus saving an additional 11-mile round trip on the bike, and some turfing time as well. Always nice to know you don’t have another 5-mile return cycle after a hard session turfing.
My plan was to take as many of the turfer unique zones above as I can. And with a myriad of other zones between them, that means plenty of points for Team Scotland. Every take will also be a Round unique as well. No point going into all the boring nitty-gritty detail of every zone taken but I did manage a good 50 or so, including three unique zones and 8 turfer uniques as well. These were: Smurfn, luneside, wfb59, Pootle, KellysHero, MichTorr, Kampff and peculiarbear.
There was two I didn’t manage to get. One held by MaggieMay at zone BionicYard, mainly because they don’t allow you into the gardens with a bicycle, despite the fact that I’m a paying member at the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh. And I also didn’t have a bicycle lock with me. The other, TrollBunden at EdinCastle, which was heaving with tourists. There was one other I saved for another day and that was zone WispInTweed, Danderhall, held by turfer Loggy85. Might get that tomorrow if it’s still there. Hint, leave it be, please!
There’s a game I like to play when out turfing, when I see another turfer nearby that I don’t know or haven’t met in person. For example, today I was close to turfer gaelgirl and what I like to do is use my imagination to wonder what that turfer might look like. In this instance I was thinking Scottish female, fiery redhead with roots in the Highlands. Perhaps like Merida in the animated movie Brave. Unfortunately, she became a ghost and vanished. Oh well, perhaps next time.
