Turf Zone – BrightonPark

There is something in the Game of Turf called TvT, or to give it it’s full name Turfer verses Turfer. It can be found on Warded and shows you which Turfers you have taken zones from as well as some additional related stats. Seems to be a game some turfers play, hunting down other turfers and taking zones from them. You might have thought this would be ideal for an official Turf medal but unfortunately this is not the case.

But what about a Planet Gary unofficial Turf medal for taking zones from as many different turfers as you can find? Well, I did consider that, making a medal for, say, 5, 10, 25, 50, 75, 100, 250, even 500, but find I’m off two minds about doing that. To date, I’ve taken at least one zone from 286 different turfers. This would get me the 250 medal but what next after that? It would be a long way to the next medal, the 500, and yes I could create any number between, but I prefer to follow the normal Turf format. Of course, an alternative would be to start from scratch. Something to think about.

You can find out who holds which zones with these useful tools.

Something else I’ve been looking at is the topic of e-bikes and today I was wondering if an e-bike would be more efficient than my humble leg-power-only single speed bike for turfing. So, I did some rough calculations comparing my own take times with that of another turfer I know who rides an e-bike, and an e-bike that is somewhat enhanced from when it left the bike shop, if you know what I mean. All very naughty.

The results were very surprising. On average, and remember, this was me on my single speed bike (the Surly Ogre), I was taking a zone every roughly 2.10 minutes. The figures for the e-bike, which I had expected to be far better, actually came out very similar, from 2.00 to 2.20 minutes per zone. I compared a range of similar areas and also the same urban areas.

Okay, this is not very scientific and there may be other factors that I’m not aware of, or perhaps I’ve made some fundamental error in my calculations, or I need to study the stats in far greater detail. In any case, it does not suggest to me that purchasing an e-bike will be a benefit to myself at the moment. I know that my single speed bike comes in at about half the weight of the e-bike, so perhaps that has something to do with the results as do fitness levels, rider age and so on. Anyway, I think I’ll be sticking with my single speed for some time yet. Yet, this must be wrong. Surely an e-bike, with it’s assisted power-boost, must make it quicker between zones? More investigation required, I think.
